- Being Active Learners: Active engagement in course materials makes an impact on students' lives. Students must talk about what they are learning, write reflectively about it, relate it to past experiences, and apply it to their daily lives.
- Having High Personal Expectations: Research has shown that expectations often become a self-fullfilling prophecy. This is why teachers must have high expectations for all their students, so they can and will achieve! It is my goal as a teacher to give every student a lot of positive feedback that is accurate, specific, and descriptive. Positive feedback helps students understand their strengths and reminds them that they are a valuable part of the classroom.
- Being Shown Empathy and Respect: The Golden Rule: one should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself. Being empathetic and respectful towards others allows people to feel safe, calm, and comfortable. And guess what? All of these feelings are necessary and conducive to a successful learning environment.
- Taking Risks: Building trust in the teacher and other students and training students to disagree without personal put-downs are essential to widespread display of good learning behaviors. One way in which to grow is to learn from our mistakes. I am not interested in solely teaching the right answer, I am interested in teaching the process, exploring thinking, and hypothesizing, all which require risk taking. People that learn from their mistakes have a growth-mindset. To learn more about growth-mindset, follow the link bellow:
