I grew up the son of two public school teachers and often considered teaching as a profession throughout my childhood and early adulthood. From an early age, I observed my parents' constant, earnest efforts to positively impact the lives of their students and the satisfaction they received from serving others. Over time I have found that I am most fulfilled when I am helping others and expanding my knowledge. Whether I am teaching the proper mechanics of making a free throw or teaching someone how to practice a musical scale so they can play a tough musical passage, I enjoy thinking about process and what it takes to do something well.
I received a Bachelor of Music from Portland State University where I focused on classic guitar performance. After school I performed as a musician, taught private music lessons, and managed a music retail store. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching music lessons, but I yearned to teach a variety of subjects in a classroom setting. This is why I decided to get my Master of Arts in Teaching from Concordia University. I graduated from the program in 2014.
